"The architects designed a ~500 sqft, modern addition to our 1857 mansard victorian house. The addition features two rooms, a full, and a half bath. Delicate balance between the modern addition and the old house was important, since this project is in a historic district. Communication with the architects was excellent throughout the project. Architects helped us find a great contractor to take on the project."

This modern addition to an historic mansard victorian employs simple means to open the house up to the garden. Two offset volumes, a playroom and a guestroom, create a corner window and overhang that is a comfortable modern space for outdoor living. The sloping site is retained by gabion walls, steel cages filled with rocks and often used in civil engineering and large infrastructure projects, and adds a pleasing roughness to the otherwise sleek addition.
