mansard addition
This modest addition to an historic mansard victorian employs simple means to open the house up to the garden. Two offset volumes, a playroom and a guestroom, create a corner window and overhang that is a comfortable space for outdoor living. The sloping site is retained by gabion walls, steel cages filled with rocks and often used in civil engineering and large infrastructure projects, and adds a pleasing roughness to the otherwise sleek addition.
